CHINESE NEW YEAR'S CELEBRATION

Chinese New Year Firework Insanity
Chinese New Year is definitely something to see and experience. At just about any corner store you can find, they sell cannon sized fireworks and they will sell them to anyone. It is two fun filled weeks of dodging misfired missiles and hearing explosions literally 24 hours a day, including the 3 am wakeup call for everyone who dared to attempt catching some sleep.

On New Year’s Eve, there are amazing firework displays in every direction you look and as far as the eye can see. They go pretty much none stop for about 3 hours into the New Year morning.

Experiencing the fireworks during a Chinese New Year was probably the closest I ever felt to understanding what it must be like to be in a war. It was disorientating, scary, and flat out dangerous. above are some pictures of the extremes the Chinese will go to when given anything that is fun and explosive. Firecrackers strung together and then lit.

CANADIAN VISITS PORTER FIREWORKS WAREHOUSE

from----ruthleah.blogspot.com--

Back in the US of A
The American Thanksgiving just recently passed last week. And it made me think of my family.Although I am a Canadian citizen born and raised, I also have American citizenship because of my mom.She is from Nebraska and only moved to Canada when she married my dad.Growing up, my family would make the long 3 day drive to Nebraska every other year for the American Thanksgiving.

My mom comes from a pretty big family. With 5 brothers and 5 sisters who are all married with kids (except one) Thanksgiving's down in Nebraska were always pretty huge. And now that the cousins have started getting married and having their own kids I think our numbers topped around 80 people last year. That's not even including the bf's or gf's of unmarried cousins.

To be honest it was always a little bit awkward for me and my siblings. Our family is the only one who lives outide of Nebraska. The rest of our cousins have all grown up together and are really close but we (the Canadian cousins) were always a little bit on the outside. In spite of that we always managed to have a pretty good time.

My family usually went a few days before everyone else started congregating in order to make the drive worth while, lol

On the way there we always made our traditional stop at The World's Largest Fireworks store (Shelton's) so my dad could stock up on one of his favourite hobbies.*left: Shelton's fireworks store
